Last Zone Conference with Presidente and Hermana Urrea

Hola Hola! Muy bien gracias! y tu? So last week was okay. On Monday as you know we thought we found an internet café that we could use to Skype with you but we were let down. Maybe someday before pigs fly we will figure it out…hahaha. Why do you have a web cam but no microphones to use with it?? The search continues. After p-day time ended we were finally able to have a lesson with Victor Baldera! He’s the man who lived in Utah. We had a really great lesson with him and his partner Antonia. They are both interested in learning about the church and even accepted our invitations to go to church and be baptized. The only thing is they are living together and can’t be baptized until they get married or live separately. We asked if they are willing to get married so they can be baptized and they both agreed to that too. Their problem is money because Antonia has health problems and they have to buy medications for her. They live in a small room on a lot where they have everything in one room. They are very humble and looking for Christ so we are going to try and help them.

Tuesday we had intercambios. I was with Elder Ortiz and we had a lesson during the day with a 10-year-old who is one of their recent converts. He doesn’t remember anything of what the missionaries taught him so we had to re-teach him some parts. The rest of the day we spent contacting and we achieved our goal of 8 contacts. Even though we are in the same ward as the other missionaries, we are divided and it just felt different to be in their part of the ward, in a good way. Elder Ortiz is a cool and funny guy.

Wednesday we had a few appointments but they all canceled or weren’t home. We received a reference that there was a 10-year-old boy from a member family who hadn’t been baptized yet so we went to visit the family and talk with his parents but it ended up being a wild goose chase. The parents and previous bishop both told us that he is baptized. We were able to go contacting and found a couple of really good solid contacts and some others that accepted that we can go by and talk to them.

Thursday we had our zone conference and it was really awesome! Elder Pingree came and gave us the first lesson about prayer. In one part he talked about how there’s 3 things that can happen after we pray which are: things that aren’t going to happen, things that are going to happen, and things that could possibly happen. All are according to the will of the Lord; but for the things that could possibly happen, they are only going to if we do our part. In Alma 26:22 it says we need to repent, exercise faith, produce good works and pray continually. After we do our part, that’s when the miracles come that will answer our prayer or be the answer to our prayers. It reminded me of a talk by Brad Wilcox where he talks about a very similar theme of receiving revelation. Also this is our last Zone Conference with Presidente and Hermana Urrea so we had an activity where we all put a thumb print with our name, where we’re from, when we started and when we are ending our mission. We took pictures with them too. I also got my package finally that you sent like a month ago! It was a pretty good day!

Friday we went by Karla’s to see how she is doing. She answered the door but basically told us she’s not interested because she’s busy and has been going to a Christian church with her boyfriend. Noooooo! Bueno, we tried but we are going to drop her for now and maybe, hopefully, in the near future she will accept the missionaries again. I’m going to keep praying for her too. We were also able to finally catch Joselin home in the evening and talk a bit with her. She hasn’t been reading the Book of Mormon so we decided to read a bit with her to help her know that it’s important. She also promised us she would be at church on Sunday.

Saturday we got a surprise visit from the zone leaders and the district leader because in the zone we have the lowest numbers being reported. I have been praying a lot for help and I believe them coming was an answer to my prayer. They helped us realize some problems we have that need to be resolved. They also helped us talk things out and set goals to keep improving our companionship and the area too. It all starts with the companionship. We also gave them suggestions of how and what they can do to improve and be better leaders. I have a lot to do and not a whole lot of time left to do it! We passed by with Joselin in the evening to make sure she is reading, praying and going to come to church and again she promised us she was.

Sunday, well Joselin didn’t come to church. We called her and passed by her house in the morning but nada. We passed by her house in the evening to see what happened and she told us she went to her aunt’s house and slept there and ended up sleeping in very late so she wasn’t able to come. Because she didn’t come and hasn’t gone for 3 weeks we have to drop her as an investigator. We are still going to pass by to see how she is doing and have short lessons but until she comes to church she doesn’t count as an investigator. It was a great day contacting though because we were able to find 12 new contacts!

I love the pictures you sent! I’m really glad you guys liked that talk, it’s really good and makes you think a lot. Thank you for those thoughts! I want to send you another talk called A Potato for the Teacher by Bonny Dahlsrud. It’s a weird name but it’s a really good talk. It is short but it’s about how we don’t always have to do big things for people, even the smallest things matter!

I love you both and hope you have a great week.
