6 Months in the Mission!

Hola mama! How are you? I love in your email that you told me you thought the jerky is spicy haha. Mom don’t you know where I am and what I’ve had to go through eating spicy foods??
If you can send it I really want to try it to see if my taste buds have adapted to the spicy food here! To answer your questions our recent converts are doing pretty good. As far as investigators, we have some new ones that we are teaching that are going okay. Some other new ones that we have we are struggling to teach them because they are either not home or are busy with other things.

This past week we had a zone conference and it was pretty good and inspiring. One of the things we talked about is that we are allowed to watch the movie Coco! It has many applications and things in it that we can relate to the gospel like families and family history, the plan of salvation, music and remembering the people you love. We get to watch it this week! We also talked about how important it is to have the youth as well as the young adults help us with missionary work. In any way possible we should be utilizing them. There really aren’t a lot of either of those groups in our ward but we have a plan to work more with the members during the cambio.

During our studies Thursday morning we devoted a lot of time to researching a question that a sister member had about the anti-christ and if he came from a specific place like a country or city and what not. We went to an internet café to research as well and during our time there I looked up videos about comfort in trials, adversity and family so I could send them to you guys. It was super awesome because as I was looking, watching videos and reading, I was being uplifted, comforted and strengthened myself. I could feel the spirit so strongly. I found them all on LDS.org in the media library and never realized before how useful that site is. You can find basically anything on there. It really is super awesome!

We also worked with members to teach them about the importance of the Book of Mormon. We asked them to write their testimony in it, mark their favorite scripture and then pray to receive revelation to know of a neighbor, friend, coworker, anyone that they could share the Book of Mormon with. The Book of Mormon truly is powerful if we know how to study it correctly and if we share it with others and teach them how to effectively read, study, and search the Book of Mormon to receive answers to questions and understand the will of God.

Friday was a good day with visits that we planned, the only problem with the visits that we had was that I needed to talk more. I’m still struggling with talking during lessons. I’m just a reserved person but I really am trying. It’s a work in progress for me but I know God will help me, and my companion both, if we keep praying, are humble and diligent too.

Saturday we went to visit a less active member who we found while walking in the street. He is 18 and his name is Ivan. He’s been a member for a few years, but hasn’t been able to attend church for about 6 months because of work and some other things going on in his life but he wants to start coming back to church. We talked to him about serving a mission and he told us he wants to he just needs to talk to the bishop to receive the Melchizedek priesthood and start preparing more to serve. It’s our goal to help him prepare but we told him we are going to take it one step at a time. What an awesome experience we have to help him! And his family too because only 3 out of 5 or 6 people in his family are members.

That afternoon there was a baptism of a boy from a family in the ward. Anaid, one of our investigators, really wanted to see a baptism so we invited her to come. We’ve explained to her how simple it is and quick but she still wanted to see it. We explained to her as well that baptism is also about the meaning and what baptism by immersion represents. She is traveling for a little bit but hopefully after that we can confirm her baptismal date. She has been investigating the church for about 5 years now and we are praying that now is her time to be baptized.

That’s about it. For conference this weekend we have to go to the stake center to watch it. To watch the Saturday session we have to have a male investigator with us and we don’t have one right now so I don’t think we will be able to watch the Saturday session. We will be able to watch the Sunday session though!

Thanks mama, you're the best! Love you! Have a great week!
