Crazy Week with 20 Baptisms for our Zone, Mission Boundary Changes and Transferring to a New Area

Hola Mamá! What’s cracken? So this last week was crazy! Monday after we talked, we took Jorge and Daniel to a family home evening with the Familia Angel Gutierrez and it was incredible! We sang hymns, watched the short version of the Restoration, then el Hermano Angel and his wife shared experiences and testimonies about the Restoration and the Book of Mormon. It was a very spiritually powerful experience. This family is one of the reasons I love this ward. The oldest daughter, Amairani, was the one who gave us the idea to have the FHE and it was just awesome. Jorge and Daniel really enjoyed getting to know the family.

Tuesday, well things started to make sense as to why the ZLs have been telling us to make sure the area book is perfect and deep clean the casa every Monday for the past few weeks. We had a zone conference where President told us that the zone of Alamedas is being changed to another mission. All missionaries currently in this zone are going to stay in the Mexico City North Mission, just get transferred to other zones. As for the new missionaries coming to this area, they came Friday to live with us for a few days so we could show them around the area, introduce them to the investigators and help get them familiarized with the area a bit. More on that later. It’s crazy to think that 3 of my 4 areas served are here in Alamedas and now they are in another mission (Mexico City West Mission).

Wednesday we got a call from Elder Loomis telling us we needed to start packing up everything because we are leaving Sunday after lunch from this area. It took a while to pack up but after that we went to visit Jorge and Daniel with the ward mission leader and his wife. The lesson was okay, I was hoping they would get involved a bit more in the lesson and discussion, we really had to encourage the mission leader and his wife to talk, but at least Jorge and Daniel are doing great and told us they loved the FHE we had on Monday.

Thursday shortly after our study time we set out to contact before lunch. We were fasting that day for the baptisms that were coming up on Saturday; but I felt super weak and could barely walk so we ended the fast a little earlier than the 24 hours. We were able to visit a couple of people throughout the day and also find some new contacts though.

Friday we went to visit the Familia Angel to tell them what was going to happen with the mission changes. They invited us out to breakfast and gave us a couple of umbrellas as gifts. I love this family! I’m going to miss them like crazy. After our visit, we went back to the casa and finished packing up and cleaning. Then later we went to the stake center to meet the new missionaries. The Elders who came back to Campestre are Elder Muñoz from Bolivia and Elder Alcantara who is from Mexico City. After we got to our area my companion took Elder Alcantara to get Jorge and Daniel and take them to their interviews at the church while I took Muñoz to show him around the area a bit and introduce him to investigators. Upon returning to the casa my companion told me their interviews were mas a menos. Turns out Jorge didn’t tell us he smoked 3 days ago but luckily, they called President to tell him that but also that he really wanted to be baptized still so he gave us the okay to still baptize him Saturday. With Daniel, he was still having doubts and said he isn’t as sure as he told us he was a few days before that and still wants to learn more before he gets baptized. Elder Loomis was able to talk to them both and encourage them and we prayed extra hard that night for them both as well.

Saturday well…. Daniel didn’t end up getting baptized but Jorge did! Before the baptismal service we spent time showing the new elders around the area a bit more. We also passed by to see Jorge and Daniel but Daniel said he was busy and asked if we could come back. When we did go back he said he still wanted more time and that he couldn’t even go see his dad be baptized because he had to stay and watch over his mom. I was a bit frustrated but there’s nothing we can do about it since he wanted to wait. The baptismal service was great though! It took a few hours because at first we took a big group picture with all the missionaries and investigators who were going to get baptized all dressed in white. There were 20 people to be baptized, it was a line of people… There wasn’t even enough room in the restrooms, so we had to use the classrooms for people to change. One of the bigger classrooms is where they did the confirmations. It was kind of crazy because there were so many people baptized in all of the Stake of Alamedas. The Stake President and his counselors and President and Hermana Urrea were all there. It was awesome!

Sunday up until the afternoon we had no idea where we were all being transferred to. All they told us was to be to the offices by 4:30 for further instructions. At church we basically said goodbye to everyone and took tons of pictures. Daniel was at church and said he still wants to be baptized and that when he is ready, he wants Elder Cruz or me to do it, but unfortunately that can’t happen, especially since we’re in a different mission now. He is still my friend though. After we got to the offices, President and Hermana Urrea finally told us we are going to stay companions and will be in an area called Bella Vista B in Cuautitlan Izcalli. We are sharing the ward/area with the zone leaders who are in Bella Vista A. So we got here and spent the night cleaning (it was a little dirty from the previous elders), unpacking and setting things up. I really like the house we are in and am excited to start working in the area. This area has only been open for the transfer before so it’s all new in general but I’m excited!
